McConnell Won't Back Replacing Feinstein

McConnell Won’t Back Replacing Feinstein

"SNIP........

“Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Tuesday voiced his strong opposition to allowing Democrats to temporarily replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) on the Judiciary Committee, stymieing a move sought by Democrats to strengthen the party’s hand in confirming judicial nominees during Feinstein’s extended absence,” the Washington Post reports.

“During remarks on the Senate floor, McConnell argued that nominees by President Biden that enjoy some Republican support are still able to move forward through the committee as Feinstein recovers from shingles in California.”

“Adding another Democratic vote in the meantime would only serve to allow Democrats to ‘force through their very worst nominees,’ McConnell said.”

Biden's admin has gotten more done in two years than any other president has in four, some in eight.

This sort of negativity in not welcome on this site which is about boosting, encouraging and helping Democrats to win.

The most recent nomination was literally put forward by Todd Young of Indiana.

https://www.young.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/young-introduces-judge-matthew-brookman-nominee-for-us-district-judge-for-the-southern-district-of-indiana

Today, Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) introduced Matthew Brookman, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Indiana, during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Judge Brookman has been nominated to serve as U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Indiana.

During his remarks, Young spoke about Judge Brookman’s background and outlined why he supports his nomination.

We're talking about since Feinstein has been absent. All Judicial confirmations since she's been absent required bipartisan support, which means no liberal judges.

Not out of the committee anyway, the nominees already passed out of committee before her absence have been approved by the full senate since she’s been gone- are you claiming none of those are liberal?

If so, please name them, and list your criteria for determining they aren’t liberal.

Biden's pick for the 5th Circuit:

https://www.texastribune.org/2023/04/14/irma-ramirez-judge-nomination-5th-circuit/

“Judge Ramirez’s distinguished track record of judicial excellence throughout her decades of service in Texas makes her exceptionally qualified for the Fifth Circuit,” Cornyn said in a statement. “I am proud to recommend her for this position with Sen. Cruz, and I look forward to seeing her continue to uphold the rule of law on the federal bench.”

If a state’s senator doesn’t approve of a nominee for his state, he can block it with a blue slip.

Durbin could eliminate blue slips, but won’t.

Democrats must remain virtuous and bi-partisan and fair and stuff so that we don't hurt Republican feelings. Whatever Senate Republicans did in the past to railroad through their nominees is of no moment to the noble Ashley Wilkes of the Democratic caucus.

It's like our government is stuck in the 1800s when the rest of the world is rapidly leaving it in the dust. Remote meetings! Remote voting! Holy crap the whole rest of the country is doing this daily. Meanwhile the Senate is placing black and while beans in a hat.

It's silly.

What rule or "tradition" does mcturtle have where he can decide what Democrats serve on a committee? It isn't like he respected Democratic voices when he was the Senate majority leader.
