"Why Trump is still favored for the GOP nomination, despite his indictment."

CNN

Donald Trump is the first former president to be indicted. Given that move by a New York grand jury and the other high-profile criminal cases involving Trump, you might think his political fortunes are endangered.

But many Republican officials seem hesitant to attack the former president (instead turning on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who brought the charges), and betting markets still favor Trump for the GOP nomination in 2024.

So what’s going on? We’re in an obviously unprecedented situation, and the political reality can change post-indictment.

Still, Republicans and bettors are likely reacting to three facts:

Trump’s polling lead in the 2024 Republican primary has grown over the last month as an indictment loomed.
Most Republicans think all the different Trump probes are motivated by politics.
A majority of Trump supporters aren’t overly concerned about his electability among general election voters.

none of the indictments matter to his voters, what matters to them is SCOTUS and federal courts, those reshape the country for decades, and trump showed that he delivers on that front. explicit white supremacist rhetoric is another trump feature they crave most that other candidates are unable to match. If he is the nominee, we should win easier than last time due as post roe v wade that energized dem voters in purple states. I bet we’d keep all the same states plus NC in 2024, not to mention taking back the house.

The message here is after the NY indictment is made public, other indictments yet to follow based on the facts, ...Donald Trump is a CRIMINAL and NOT above the rule of law! Those who defend him are CRIMINALS(that included Congressional republicans)! Those who intend to vote for him if the nominee are CRIMINALS because they support CRIMINALITY and NOT law and order!

Democrats playing hardball will win the election. This is a Nation of laws, not of one man with aspirations for Dictatorship.

He may continue to be, hopefully. Or, he may not be in six months. Either way, he will never be president again.
