Embezzling $250 Million During Covid Meant For Ensuring Kids Got Fed?

Earlier today Minnesota US Attorney Andy Luger announced more indictments in a Covid-relief scandal known as Feeding Our Future. Never heard of it? Understandable. It got missed during the run-up to the 2022 elections. But rest assured, it was definitely known in these parts. And the scale of it all is kind of breath-taking to say the least.

White collar criminals who defraud. One sentence for each million and the first 5 are consecutive.

Worked for the state and conspired to approve dozens of fraudulent claims for kickbacks. They all are supposed to pay restitution, but I doubt anyone ever will.

Ex Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick still owes a significant amount of restitution to the City of Detroit, and has paid virtually nothing, yet still lives well.

Federal prosecutors in Minneapolis have charged another 10 people in connection with an alleged $250 million scheme to defraud government child nutrition programs.

Last fall, the U.S. Attorney's office charged 50 people allegedly tied to the nonprofit Feeding Our Future with using phony documents and shell companies to steal funds meant for children in need. So far six people have pleaded guilty.

... One of the new defendants — Lul Bashir Ali — operated a small storefront restaurant in Faribault. Authorities say Ali falsely claimed to have served 700,000 meals to children. ... Mohamed Ali Hussein, the founder of the nonprofit Somali American Faribault Education, allegedly claimed to have served 1.2 million meals over a 10 month period in 2021.

... The U.S. attorney said the total cost to taxpayers of the alleged fraud is “up from” the initial $250 million estimate, but he said investigators are still working to determine an exact figure.

It's a big deal in Minnesota. And of course RW hate radio is loving it.

Aimee Bock’s boyfriend allegedly spends more than $40,000 of the Child Nutrition Programs money on a weeklong trip to Las Vegas. There, he allegedly pays $21,000 for a rental car, $9,000 at Caesar’s Palace, $6,700 at Gucci, and $3,500 at Louis Vuitton.

In a week? Clutchexotics will rent a Ferrari 488 GTB for $10,000 a week, and a Rolls-Royce convertible for $1,200 a day.
Yet, this tool spent 3 grand a day on a car. Talk about brazen thievery...

As of today, nearly sixty people have been indicted. All told they have been accused of embezzling over $250 million in funds intended to feed kids during Covid.

Instead, some of them used the pilfered dollars to purchase:

eight pieces of property in Minnesota, Kentucky, and Ohio
seven cars, including a Porsche Macan and Tesla Model Y
bank accounts holding millions of dollars
miscellaneous electrical devices, jewelry, clothing, and accessories
a Louis Vuitton duffle bag seized from a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500.

later questioned.

And it always came back to the approvers and checkers' being tasked with push money out the door as quickly as possible, esp. for certain (alleged) purposes.
