..."Colonel in occupying army moving into small town in hostile territory" vibes.
Thinks he's the new sheriff in town but is blind to the underlying resistance of the local populace.
Think Nazis versus the French resistance. Or Russians against the Ukrainians.
But this is just some hubris laden shit:

But I'm more optimistic than this. The takeover of New College has already changed the dynamics in higher education. We have a strong new president who has a mandate to change the administrative and academic trajectory of the institution. You'll see changes in the next 120 days.
We will be shutting down low-performing, ideologically-captured academic departments and hiring new faculty. The student body will be recomposed over time: some current students will self-select out, others will graduate; we'll recruit new students who are mission-aligned.
I believe in an uncompromising new conservatism that attempts to restore the authority of the people over their governmentand lay waste to woke institutional capture. The Republic is not yet dead. We have a duty to do whatever we can to save it.
I'm ready to fightand win.

Russian forces allegedly burn Ukrainian books in occupied Luhansk
From CNN's Niamh Kennedy in London
Russian forces allegedly seized and burned Ukrainian books in public and school libraries in the Luhansk region, the Ukrainian National Resistance Centre said.
Luhansk was one of four regions annexed last autumn by Russia, in a process that is illegal under international law. The region is run by Russian-backed separatists who have claimed it as the "Luhansk People's Republic."
In a statement posted on its website Sunday, the National Resistance Center, which is run by Ukraine's Special Forces, said books have been "seized from the collections of public and school libraries" in the eastern Ukrainian region.

Nina, a 48-year-old school principal, recounted to CNN last May how Russian forces arrived at her school in northeastern Ukraine and forced her to hand over all history textbooks and quizzed her on the school's curriculum. She did not give her last name.

to obliterate the opposition, not coexist with them.

(53,194 posts)It's not that they want their own Hillsdale, although they do.
They want everyone else to go to Hillsdale, too.
If there's anything someone can find amusing about all this, it is this: Thirty years ago the Republican Party absolutely HATED communists. In 2023, that's exactly the kind of government they want to have in America. They would be overjoyed to set up a secret police force, require everyone to show their papers, and dictate every last vestige of their personal lives.

(11,767 posts)Conservatism cannot succeed unless ALL people are conservative. That is why Monarchy, which was the dominant form of government up until the 1900's, is no longer the norm. People yearn for new information and new ideas. They want actual freedom, not a stratified hierarchy telling them what to think.
In order for Conservatism to truly succeed, it has to stamp out any other ideology. It inevitably become fascism.

(11,203 posts)Crap they can easily get for free watching FoxNews a/o listening to talk radio a/o perusing social media. That coupled with the fact that conservatives have for years been discouraging higher education preferring learning from on the job experience (for which some actually does make more sense) and the fact that the wealthiest conservatives will still send their kids to the most prestigious expensive schools their money can buy (if their kids lack merit to be accepted) because they know there is a benefit to actually competitive higher education, insures these conservative non-critical thinking "Colleges" are set up to fail.
