House and Senate Republicans widely acknowledge that bad candidates cost them seats in the 2022 election. They just dont agree on what to do about it in 2024.
After a midterm cycle that saw underfunded and deeply conservative nominees blow winnable races across the country, the new regime at the National Republican Senatorial Committee is reversing its policy of neutrality and will now selectively intervene to pick winners in open GOP primaries. But in the House, where Republicans are protecting a paper-thin majority, the campaign committee will remain largely hands-off.
The split over strategy comes at a critical juncture for the GOP: Some of the partys most controversial losers from 2022 are launching campaigns or considering running in 2024. That includes Blake Masters and Kari Lake in Arizona, J.R. Majewski in Ohio and Joe Kent in Washington.
The crop of failed candidates mulling comebacks is causing headaches for party operatives who are desperate to address one of the big problems that plagued them last fall.

(4,988 posts)Theyre the ones who encouraged this far right craziness. Theyre the one who refuse to moderate and put their platform more in line with the American mainstream. They created this monster and now they cant control it. Those whackadoos represent the base of the party and theres nothing the party operatives can do about it. The looney toons will win the primaries and lose in the generals.
Play with fire and you will get burned.
