Republicans Want Spending Cuts, Insist Democrats Wield The Knife

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/republicans-want-spending-cuts-insist-democrats-wield-the-knife/ar-AA16JLGC?pc=U483&cvid=d0829ceb251042f6b010fea52f98be8f

Republicans’ refusal to lay out a detailed plan for tackling the debt is a result of the many internal disagreements in the narrow House GOP majority, as well as reluctance to propose cuts to popular domestic programs, including Social Security and Medicare.

Rather than propose the spending cuts they’d like to see, Republicans complained this week about Biden’s refusal to negotiate over the debt ceiling, something they raised three times under President Donald Trump without any fuss. With a June deadline to act, the debt ceiling debate has kicked off with a debate about negotiating ― and which side is more responsible.

“I think we have to be sensible and we have to be responsible. We have to have a responsible debt ceiling,” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said Tuesday. “I want to look the president in the eye [and hear him] tell me there’s not one dollar in wasteful spending in government?”

****************************

Well, of course, Kevin and the whack-jobs that reluctantly put him in the Speakership, know that the cuts they want to propose are cuts to programs that are hugely popular with voters. They are well aware that if the publicly announce such cuts, they will be sunk (electorally).

Someone could remind him that IRS money will generate money for the government. Someone could remind him that DOD gets more money than it requests EVERY year. Someone could remind him that in terms of percentages the uber-wealthy aren't paying their share.

No pensions for those who sit in congress, and no lifetime health care.

Let them get that stuff on the "free market."

No Congressman or senator gets pension (or at the least gets smaller pension) or lifetime health insurance once they leave office. The ones already retired not included.

Also call Schumer & Jeffries offices

Let them all know not to negotiate with terrorists.

If the Republicans want to slash benefits let them do it. Or let them ruin the entire country by defaulting on the debt.
There is no need for any of this. It’s their choice. Let them make it. No need for for Democrats to take part in this.
Let the Republicans bear the responsibility for their actions.

The line that was repeated in newspaper letters to the editor is the deal was that Reagan and Tip O'Neil was that Reagan would cut taxes and O'Neil would see to it that programs were cut, but O'Neil reneged on his part of the deal. That was the explanation given for why the deficit went up. Nobody, of course, could pinpoint when this deal was made.

In the past it has worked out bad for the country, and then for the repubs. Joe and Chuck are inviting the repubs to avoid repeating history, wherein the repubs do their best to wreck the economy and then the people throw a bunch of them out on their asses.

It's why McConnell is not really backing McCarthy this time. He knows.

Next, stop subsidies to SpaceX, and the Boring Co. Musk has plenty of money.

if THEY want the cuts, THEY have to name them.

They're holding the world economy hostage. They're the one's demanding ransom... so they have to specifically name their "demands."
