Why are so many posters suggesting a deal with McCarthy?

Kevin is untrustworthy. He's stupid, (he moved into the Speakers' office before the vote!). He's weak and spineless.

Why should the Democrats help him at all? Just to "own the 'Pubs?" How does that help our side?

Let the Republicans divide their party and self-immolate in the process. Let them kill their party.

Don't help them in any way. Let America see who these barbarians are.

McCarthy moved into the Speaker’s office because he was being removed from his own, he had nowhere else to go. That is his story.

I have seen discussions of cornering a few of the less insane R's to join Dems in supporting Jeffries (won't happen) or an outside consensus candidate (Liz Cheney--also won't happen) or one of the less insane retired Republicans.

But joining to support McCarthey? I've not seen that.

There are plenty of posters suggesting a deal with McCarthy.

Here's one:

There are others, if you look around.

If he wasn't speaker, he should have put his stuff in storage. Would you move into and office that wasn't yours? How long would that work out?

You're right about one thing though. Kevin has "nowhere else to go."

And there are plenty of responses to posts suggesting a Democratic deal with McCarthy. Look around the Latest Threads. I didn't pull my OP out of thin air.

12. He had no office so he just moved into the boss's office on his own?

There were absolutely no other space available?

He is such a bad liar.

He was pulling a typical GOP move.
Just pretend you won an election when you didn't.

Democrats to elect a choice of the Democrats.

But if that is not feasible, why not use this disaster for the Republicans to get concessions?

Would it be better to get a few committee chairs and legislative promises or would it be better not to do anything?

15. I think a deal with Republicans, even for a Republican speaker, is reasonable, but NOT McCarthy

Someone like a retired relatively-moderate Republican (there aren't any true moderates among Republican House members), someone who won't put up with sham investigations and impeachments, someone who won't play chicken with government shutdowns and the debt ceiling.

I agree, he's among the least desirable but if he's where they're leaning, if it looks like he will get the nod, he's who we have to talk to.

And if we're smart, those subjects you list would be the very ones we should be negotiating with. If they can use this to take a few of those off the table, it would be worth it.

And I don't know how we would enforce any agreement, but I assume our smart reps have their ways.

If there is a sane House member then Democrats may want to consider supporting a less crazy person.

McCarthy is the most competent and experienced of the bunch.
He's also not a moderate. He's also an arrogant snake. So, there would be no concessions to Democrats.

I prefer stupid running their show!
