They are shithole countries. From now on, you get arrested in one of those,
You're on your own.

(26,080 posts)Duh!
I'd love to go to Baghdad, what a city of antiquities, but have given up on the hope of going to the Middle East. Egypt, just a dream these days. I never cared much to go to Russia, even though our friends adored it there around 10 years ago, and now negative desire to go there - ever!

(7,964 posts)It is subsidized by the NBA, which lost $12M on it last year. The base salary for a WNBA layer is $130,000.

(18,714 posts)If you added up every, single WNBA player salary, the total would be less than the lowest paid NBA player.

(7,964 posts)The base WNBA salary is $130,000 for 12 teams while the base NBA salary is $1M. So your numbers there are way off.
So do you think every sports team or other profitable businesses must subsidize another money losing business? If the NBA started losing money it would stop financing the WNBA. It is a business operating to make money. Businesses give money to charity all the time, but the only reason the NBA is able to fund the WNBA is because it does make money.

So, if they're warning not to go, do I just ignore it and bring my hash oil anyway? Probably not.
Regardless, glad she has been released...maybe some lessons learned here for us all.

(7,191 posts)I know, she confessed, but she was forced to do that also, I'm sure. Russian justice system....????
Basically, she was a high-value target for hostage-taking on the part of the Russians, and with the extra hostile relations between the two countries because of Ukraine, Russia couldn't resist. Plus, one of the reasons the MAGAs love Putin and Russia so much is that Russia, too, is racist and anti-LGBTQ, both of which apply to Griner. It was a perfect storm of circumstances that landed on her. I'm really glad she's out now....
