Ohio Supreme Court: Republican candidates won all 3 judicial races that were on the ballot

Ohio has partisan elections for their state supreme court races.

Sharon Kennedy, who is a Republican and also a sitting Associate Justice on the Court, has won her race for Chief Justice against Democrat Jennifer Brunner, who is also a sitting Associate Justice. This was a race to replace the retiring Chief Justice, Maureen O'Connor. O'Connor is a Republican but is widely considered a moderate but her successor, Justice Kennedy, will not be a moderate. If I recall correctly, Justice Kennedy is a conservative "originalist."

Justices Patrick Fischer and Pat DeWine have both won reelection as Associate Justices.

This may have bad implication on the Court's redistricting jurisprudence. As if I recall correctly, the Republican legislature's illegal gerrymanders for state legislative races were struck down by the Ohio Supreme Court 5 times, and their congressional gerrymanders were struck down 2 times by the Ohio Supreme Court. These maps were determined to be unconstitutional under the state's constitution. The 3 Democratic Justices along with Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor made up the majority striking down those Republican gerrymanders. However, Chief Justice O'Connor is leaving the Court and is being replaced by Sharon Kennedy, who voted not to strike down those Republican gerrymanders.

I'm not sure how the associate justice seat that Sharon Kennedy currently holds will be filled once she takes the Chief Justice seat. Can someone enlighten me on that? Who decides Sharon Kennedy's successor as associate justice?

.... who dragged down the rest of the state wide races including the races for Senator and the
Ohio Supreme Court. Look for the republican run OH supreme court to codify the gerrymandered
Congressional districts so that those races are over before they even start.

Damn they were good! I'm proud to call Jenny my friend. We will hear from them again. Maybe Jamison and Zayas for
governor someday.

That one was the most disheartening of all of them. Those were the most winnable statewide judicial races for us, and if there is any state legislature in the country that needs Supreme Court supervision, it is the ridiculously brazen North Carolina legislature.
