Not to be morbid, but I wonder if anti-vaxxer deaths were a factor in last night's elections.

Trump supporters were more likely to be anti-vax than Democratic supporters. Did that play a role? Would be interesting if someone did a deep dive into the numbers.

Excess Death Rates for Republicans and Democrats During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Overall, the excess death rate for Republicans was 5.4 percentage points (pp), or 76%, higher than the excess death rate for Democrats. Post- vaccines, the excess death rate gap between Republicans and Democrats widened from 1.6 pp (22% of the Democrat excess death rate) to 10.4 pp (153% of the Democrat excess death rate). The gap in excess death rates between Republicans and Democrats is concentrated in counties with low vaccination rates and only materializes after vaccines became widely available.

And I'm okay with that.

If some states had not instituted mandates for certain categories of workers, we would have made even more gains, since those mandates probably resulted in more Republicans getting vaccinated than if we had just let them be fucking stupid on their own.

And we are still losing about 150,000 people a year due to COVID.

Get vaxxed and carry on.

Remember how they were okay with AIDS as long as it was killing gay people?

I'm starting to feel that way about COVID-19. It's a blunt instrument, but it is removing Republicans from the population at a significantly higher rate.

The early massive death tolls were borne by minorities. So the latter rural deaths just evened out the field.

In any event, I doubt it had much of an impact on either side.

We have been between 300 and 400 deaths from COVID every single day for the last 3 or 4 months.

A high average for flu deaths is less than 150 a day.
