We're going to be seeing some horrific and heartbreaking film footage, tomorrow

I can't even begin to imagine the wreckage that this hurricane will leave behind and how long the recovery will take.

Hopefully not many people decided to ride out this storm at home.

but of course not if shelter is of weak construction or in an evacuation zone. A lot of people evacuate to the home of friends or family outside the zones, but not necessarily because people aren't forced to leave. They keep advising people not to go out to take pictures.

A meteorologist pointed out that Irma was a wind event, this one's water. Deluge.

Many of them were watching the news several days ago, which predicted a different track and a different timeline. It may have been cemented in their expectations. In Fort Meyers, they opened all shelters, expecting a ton of people, in the 10-15k range. They got 2k as of yesterday. The Mayor freaked out. They sent out emergency messaging over a couple phone-based means, but as of this morning they hadn't even hit 5k. So, they're hoping that many more people than expected left to stay with friends a bit more inland or to go to hotels far away, but they aren't actually believing that.
