My vocal cords cancer update

Finished the 6 weeks of radiation last week, throat area badly sun burnt, has peeled once already, told
it will probably peel several times and even crack open. Still very tender to the touch when applying
the recommended ointment. Guessing like a 3rd or 4th degree burn.

Coughing up a lot thick slimy stuff constantly, have to keep a disposable cup handy at computer desk
and while watching TV. Fill them up 3 or 4 times a day.

Sleeping has averaged only 1 to 3 hours at a time so I'm constantly tired, although last night I got 5 hours
without waking up. Hope that's a good sign.

Some other symptoms I'm having point to a problem with my thyroid (from a WWW search) which is close
to the vocal cords. Have follow up appointment tomorrow so will ask Doc.

When talking voice is real low, Doc said it'll be about 4 months before we know if it returns to normal.
Good news is I'm still alive! Sure have missed messing with the repugs every Friday night over at the
VFW, Doc said 6 more weeks of no alcohol, so I'll get to put in my 2 cents just prior to the midterms.

It sounds treatable, though, so that's encouraging. Hang in there. I'm sending positive, healing vibes and hugs to you!

Radiation therapy is never very 'targeted', it seems. I hope any other issues are minor/easily treatable and you heal up fast so you can get back to raising hell with Repugs at VFW and online!

Take care. We need you for mid-terms and beyond!

and don't push too hard to get back to VFW. I'm glad the radiation is over, and hope you recover quickly. It really does sound miserable.

She too had a burned neck, but the thing she did not expect was having to have her throat stretched every so often to prevent it closing up completely. This may not apply to you but I pass it along as a simple head-up. Good luck and take care.

but it sounds like the future looks better as you recover and heal.

Don't worry too much about the thyroid. Not a desirable outcome, of course, but there is medication to deal with it. I have been taking a hormone pill for an underactive thyroid for 20 years.
