I don't know. I have friends in Florida and I don't think they know either. What do you think?
He is obviously against many ideas we are in favor of.

(96,882 posts)I'm not aware of a DeSantis policy that Florida VOTERS (not Democratic activists or bloggers) are notably unhappy about.

(12,651 posts)The wind is shifting in his favor, and also more broadly, in the GOP's favor. This inflation is an election killer, even though many of DeSantis' policies make inflation worse (i.e. tax cuts and tax credits). He slams Joe Biden for inflation driving policies and then he does the same thing... but most people won't make that connection at all.

(12,651 posts)against gun control. His stance on guns will motivate Republican voters more than it does Dems.
ETA: Florida raised its minimum age for buying guns to 21 after the Parkland shooting, and DeSantis is against that.

(7,669 posts)the libs. I hate the guy, but he generally gets a pass from the media in my area. Hell, in a sane state he would have been recalled just for hiring Ladapo in the middle of a pandemic, let alone his other nonsense.

(7,669 posts)DeSantis thinks he is already a shoe-in he will stumble. He is one arrogant SOB.

(4,669 posts)Which they havent in recent years. I think he has sooo much money in his war chest he will bury the Dem in negative ads and radio.
In It to Win It
(12,651 posts)That's why I hate that our primaries are so late (unless we get some drop outs leaving one candidate) because it delays the fund raising for the general election.
FloridaBlues
(4,669 posts)Give him more time to drive down our candidate. Maybe indies and more dems will vote than in the last several years.
We arent the same Florida as when we elected President Obama years ago.

(28,706 posts)all of the predictions have Florida at just barely hypothetically competitive.
Something has to happen in order for that to change

(28,706 posts)The "something" can't just be a policy/decision/whatever that ticks off those of us who already don't like him. It has to be something that damages his existing support.
So far... nothing significant. Not much credible polling in the race so far. But what there has been hasn't been very close.

(4,669 posts)Is his fragile glass jaw he has, he does not like to be questioned and is quite rude in press coverage or question him. Voters other than republicans may not want a mini trump once he gets in presidential race.
In It to Win It
(12,651 posts)The one thing DeSantis will have that Trump didn't is a fringe-policy record. He signs extreme right wing policies into law.
His retaliatory abuses of power may not play so well to a national audience.
edhopper
(37,370 posts)and the GOP has rigged Florida so that they can overcome a small deficit in actual votes (as opposed to votes counted.
And he will run for President in 2024. Will be the front runner most likely.

(23,715 posts)We like to think of Florida as purple but it really isn't anymore. They've gone red, albeit in close elections, on almost ever statewide office and the presidency for the last ten years or so. desantis is a monster, Rick Scott is psychotic, Rubio is a twit, and Florida just keeps bathing love of them, and of course they went for drumpf twice
the gop has fought hard to brainwash the latino vote in southern florida and it has paid off big time for them.

(3,023 posts)and she picks a Non-MAGA Republican as her Lt. Governor.
She would need someone who is well known and has a long history in the Republican party and convince enough of them that the things DeSantis has done are not normal.
That person would be Anna Navarro. She is a well-known political commentator who is against Trump and could help the Democrats win.
mcar
(46,059 posts)but she has very little support and next to no name recognition.
And no, just no, to picking a Republican as running mate. If they are not MAGA, they won't get any R votes.

(46,059 posts)He is Trump mini-me. I see people writing in to our local rag saying he's doing such a great job but they can't ID anything he's actually done - just like IMPOTUS II supporters. It's a cult.
Republicans deliberately set our primary so late so their incumbents would have the advantage.
I like Nikki Fried but I am reluctantly supporting Charlie Crist because I think he has a better chance of defeating DeSatan. I'm hoping the Democrats don't tear each other to shreds in the meantime.
