(53,179 posts)Just Googled and saw this.
Today we sisters experienced a tragedy, the statement said, according to the Associated Press. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.
A statement from Naomi Judds publicist said that her husband of 32 years, Larry Strickland, will not be making any further statements. Naomi Judds family request privacy during this heartbreaking time. No additional information will be released at this time.
The announcement came the day before the Judds were set to be formally inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame at a medallion ceremony in Nashville.

(114,615 posts)and depression arising from childhood trauma often can't be treated by antidepressant drugs. Childhood trauma also increases the risk of suicide.
So far, drugs of abuse the DEA doesn't like have shown promise, like Ketamine (renamed Calypso, like a depressed person will suddenly want to dance), MDMA for severe PTSD, and psilocybin. It has been extremely difficult to get studies done properly, especially the larger scale studies that might tell them something more useful and narrow the focus about which drug might be best for particular patients, because of the War on Drugs.
I don't know if any of these drugs might have helped Naomi Judd, or if the experimental antidepressant electrode system might have helped. It would have helped a lot if she and other survivors had been given the options.
Depression is not a moral failing. It's not something you can snap out of. It is a potentially fatal disease that needs appropriate treatment. I wish such treatment had been available to her.
