British general Montgomery, circa wwII, advised two rules for leading armies.
1 Do not launch a land invasion of china
2. Do not march on moscow (especially in winter most people add). Ask Napoleon or hitler about marching on moscow during cold weather.

The corollary to the above is, do not march 'from' moscow in cold weather, such as now. I felt monty's sage advice was why
Putin waited so long to invade, tho it is still winter for a few more weeks.
In cold, metal can turn brittle of course, tanks more difficult to operate, guns, artilliery, planes too.

It’s also very hard on foot soldiers to have to fight in bitter cold.

"I have not yet begun to fight." John Paul Jones to the British during our Revolution.

"Nuts." Anthony McAuliffe, the commander of the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne in Bastogne, Belgium in 1944, would go down in history for his defiant, one syllable reply to a German surrender ultimatum.

Words alone cannot do harm, but they can motivate and energize us to achieve victory.
