BREAKING: SCOTUS has officially denied Donald Trump's call for Supreme Court review of the Jan. 6 select committee's bid for his White House records.
"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday brought a formal end to former President Donald Trump's request to block the release of White House records sought by the Democratic-led congressional panel investigating last year's deadly attack on the Capitol by a mob of his supporters.
The court's decision to formally reject Trump's appeal follows its Jan. 19 order that led to the documents being handed over to the House of Representatives investigative committee by the federal agency that stores government and historical records."

The courts move, which came in a brief unsigned order issued without comment, comes after the justices denied Trumps emergency request to block the transfer of his White House records from the National Archives to the House select committee, a process that began last month.
Tuesdays development formally ends Trumps legal effort to stymie lawmakers efforts to obtain a batch of schedules, call logs, emails and other requested documents that the committee says could illuminate key circumstances surrounding the deadly Capitol riot.
The order leaves intact a lower federal appeals court ruling that found Trumps assertion of executive privilege and other legal theories unpersuasive in light of President Bidens refusal to invoke privilege, as well as the House panels pressing task.
Since the Supreme Court has disallowed Trump's use of Executive Privilege to stymie the work of the January 6 committee, where does this leave AG Garland's decision not to indict Mark Meadows who is refusing to cooperate with the committee on Executive Privilege grounds? If the court won't allow Trump to make the claim, then certainly Mark Meadows cannot make the claim.

(17,802 posts)They don't really care about tfg personally, and they are expecting a gop controlled house to tear the democratic party to pieces in retaliation.
If they limited congressional power now, it might hold for when the gop wants to abuse it in retaliation.
Expect them to subpoena everyone in the obama admin, and most dem house members, especially of the non-white-male variety.

(7,334 posts)They want him to FALL just as much as the rest of us - but for different reasons.
He is the common link to their illegitimate appointments to The Court. He was paid the political (and perhaps literal) blood money.
The quicker he is in jail and out of the public limelight the more secure their judas appointments become. The public quickly forgets unless or until the M$M starts a drumbeat.
Thos 3 Incompetent Quacks along with their ringleader Thomas will still pursue the most Conservative of Social Agendas.
But they are throwing TFG under the bus with smiles on their faces and malice in their black hearts. Have no doubt.
How apropos.

And of course, they're lifetime appointments anyway, and Trump has no power over them and never will.
Plus it's an unsigned opinion, so nobody even has to know who voted how, only that at least 5 voted that way.

(28,261 posts)It takes four votes to hear a case. There couldn't have been more than three votes to hear this one; I can guess who they were.........

(13,006 posts)Again, no names, no accountability... and proceeding to hear the case is, for those on the right, a kind of no-win scenario. If they end up deciding against Trump, they will be pilloried by their side; if they end up deciding for Trump, they are establishing a precedent they may not want to see used on the other side. Now they can just ignore the whole mess.

(20,591 posts)those weren't Trump's picks for the SCOTUS, they were the Federalist Society's picks, and Trump just passed on their names to the Senate.
If it were up to Trump, Ivanka, Don Jr. and Eric would all have lifetime posts on the SCOTUS. Or maybe some of his porn actress friends.

(32,318 posts)Sheldon Whitehouse's Senate speeches concerning the Federalist Society. The FS is behind the critical race theory nonsense, is behind the anti-voter laws passed throughout the states. It launders money to politicians and right wing causes.
ps/ Christopher Wray is a member.
pss/ No proof that Merrick Garland is a member but he did participate in 10 or 11 Federalist Society events.

(20,591 posts)they want to protect the Constitution and the founding fathers' vision for this country.
Bullshit. Many things have changed in the almost 250 years since this country's inception, and the founding fathers knew this would happen. The Constitution was not a document carved in stone. It provided for ways to update and modernize the content of the Constitution, to stay current with society's norms.
What they didn't provide for was having the will of relatively few people completely negate the will of the people for whom they built this country. They did not provide for fascist takeovers.
That's my take on the FS anyway. They want to condense the power of many into the power of a few, diametrically opposed to the thoughts of our founding fathers (and it pains me to keep using that term, but that's just one of the many changes that have occured in almost 250 years).

(90,017 posts)Undoubtedly assumed his three SCOTUS appointments would happily return the favor. Undoubtedly assumed theyd owe him BIGTIME and theyd just guarantee him a nice little free get-out-of-jail card. Finding out the hard way that they owe him precisely NOTHING.

(4,616 posts)As are his die hard supporters. Not like that had to be said, it's glaringly obvious. Clearly these yahoo's are to stupid to take a look at the supreme court and see how justices have ruled AFTER they get a LIFETIME seat that is untouchable. If not for Roberts, the ACA would have been totally gutted and destroyed. That shocked the crap out of the R's trying to destroy it. Not that this bunch of tyrants will suddenly go left, but they won't be quite as dependable as the rabid R's think they will. They are no longer beholden to ANYONE. And they have made that abundantly clear to Trump.

Thats whats so awful about the GOP and its judicial army. These small victories at the Supreme Court may impugn Trump and family, but hes more of a sideshow than the bigger destructive project thats in play.

(58,374 posts)and then I realized how incorrectly I was reading it. But it *was* a moment of fun.
But that moment of fun is nowhere in comparison to the fun of having the piece of shit denied by the SCOTUS to cover up his filth!
I continue to roll with laughter.
So, with the 60+ cases of "voter fraud" that got thrown out, and other times the piece of garbage has been denied by judges - most of which he appointed - to cover up the illegal activities, how many losses is this?
Are the MAGAt deplorable tired of LOSING yet? Ya goddamned losers.

What Im starting to suspect is that if push comes to shove the GOP will happily let Trump and his minions go up the river so they can prove theyre concerned about corruption.
