I saw him a few times after 2020. I am curious to know more about him. I read his website. What do you DUers think of him? Can he take the open seat or not?

(32,345 posts)He was the mayor of Braddock a steel mill town filled with poor people who loved him.
I will vote for whoever is our nominee but I will be disappointed if it isn't Fetterman. He is a candidate who people will be excited to vote for. He was on TV with president Biden when Joe was visiting the collapsed bridge. He was dressed in shorts and a hoodie, I loved it.

(8,090 posts)against the GOP candidate. Whichever Dem wins the nomination, we all need to put our differences aside b/c there are some truly NASTY people involved on the Republican side -- Dr. Oz, Stephen Miller, Kellyanne Conway to name a few.

(41,647 posts)Both Fetterman and Lamb are from my neck of the woods - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania!
Both are strong candidates for the Senate seat, and I believe either one could beat any Repuke that's running. Of the two Fetterman is more liberal/progressive. I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like better. I'll need to make up my mind by May. that's when our PA primary happens and by then I will know which one I prefer.
Conor Lamb was a U.S. attorney in the Pittsburgh office for several years so he has experience as a prosecutor. John Fetterman was mayor of a small blue-collar suburb of Pittsburgh (Braddock, PA) for a few terms before he was tapped to run with Gov. Wolf as Lt. Governor. So Fetterman has more executive experience, and he has become well-known in the state in the last several years.

(7,869 posts)...even lots of repubs like him because he and his wife are super pro-"regular" people.
I can't wait to put my two lawn signs out for him!

(3,276 posts)He scores bonus points with them in this case since, before holding him at gunpoint, he chased em down in his truck. Like a good ol country'boy.

(3,934 posts)He would instantly become one of the most progressive senators in office.
PA is kind of conservative, so he might be a hard sell in some regions of the state.

(8,240 posts)a little uncomfortable since Val Arkoosh, who is also running, lives in our neighborhood. I like her but I don't think she has a chance. Shapiro for Governor sign will be making an appearance in the yard very soon.

Im not from there, but I will fully support, with donations our candidate

(8,240 posts)Fetterman is much more well known. He fought the fascist legislature from stealing PA for the failed coup guy.

(11,098 posts)Naturally I would support the more progressive, but Lamb also has charisma, is military -his more moderate nature might fit Pennsylvania for a midterm where the president's party tends to do worse, and he has the establishment backing.

(12,533 posts)I need to see and hear more from these men on the campaign trail. Both have pros and cons as all candidates do. Both are qualified and experienced.
At this moment, I'd say Fetterman is the candidate who will appeal to the heart--the workingman candidate who clears his own path and doesn't give a hoot what people say. He's described as a 'lone wolf,' a fierce fighter for what he believes is true, not someone given to making alliances or participating in power networks. He's amassed an impressive war chest. He does have an albatross hanging around his neck--the incident with the black jogger. This is something he must address because it's not going away.
In contrast, Lamb appeals to the head, a very polished politician who has established a wide network within Democratic circles. He can appeal to the vast center of the party, even disillusioned Republicans and rural voters. I'm not as convinced on his appeal to the base, most particularly the AA and Latino communities.
For what it's worth, I can see Fetterman engaging a large number of young people. Lamb not so much.
So, we'll see how they perform, how well both these men get their message out and who engages the biggest chunk of PA's electorate.
For me, it's all about who can win the seat.
However, in the GE? Straight Democratic vote, no hesitation.

(872 posts)I just wonder if the highly polished politician is something that will make inroads with the opposition. I think the gun incident will play to them and not necessarily turn off the Democratic voters in the general.
I kind of liked how he was willing to spar over the attempted 2020 great robbery
The anti-candidacy seems to have better traction. All said and done we can increase our lead if we start having a clear message about what we are for. We need the Bush style consistency when the Democratic members speak. Not enough leadership promoting our cause.

(19,156 posts)As in, a person's right not to be forced to be subject to say, giving up a kidney to save someone else's life, or being forced to bear her rapist's child? Or the government even getting its stupid ass in between a person and their doctor?
Or more specifically, women's reproductive rights - but I do like to generalize it, as I would not like to be forced to give up a kidney, either.
* (for any lurkers: vaccines aren't even in the same ballpark. If someone licensed to practice medicine in the relevant state says "Mary Smith should not get a vaccine because (insert valid medical reason here) ", the government mandate is not stopping that. Thanks for reading.)

(71,542 posts)We could win with Fetterman. I think Connor Lamb who barely won his congressional race will lose if he is the nominee.
