(32,343 posts)April 2017 the Germans knew trump.
4 Feb 2017 actually. Not that it matters. Just another way the USA is out of step with the rest of the world.

(22,593 posts)But I think it's even more meaningful now that Bidens been in office for over 10 months. A year ago, it was a statement of hope, but now it's reality!

(9,354 posts)or at least makes less sense, if you have forgotten the first one.
And it has definitly been long enough to have been widely forgotten. It's not like Trump** lampoons were limited in number.

(6,017 posts)The cover was published in early April of 2017 and made a minor splash at the time.
Kathy Griffin posted her version on May 31st, 2017.
I salute them both, btw. Hers was also a reference to a long tradition in political protest art of a woman holding the decapitated head of an unliked powerful man of the time period.

(60,320 posts)The first cover is February 4, 2017. This would be immediately apparent to people who know that America is actually out of step with most of the world on dates.
Won't get into 12 inches to foot here except to say that US shares non-metric measurements with Liberia and Myanmar. That's American exceptionalism.
The truly international date standard is to write it as 2017-02-04. Unambiguous, and sorting-ready.

(23,883 posts)I didn't want to use MSM - main-stream media since that gets so overused but the overlap is probably 80-90%.
There is a lot of wonderful press outlets that aren't the ones that have been in the pocket of the owner class. Even these independent outlets are probably a bit hesitant to publish what Der Spiegel can. The american culture still has some puritanical elements, altho most of our current-day puritans are really as nasty as they come....

(13,481 posts)They faced Nazism and ensured at its children are taught its horrors. Hitler and Nazism are not whitewashed the way our history of slavery has been, nor Im sure has any German history book ever praised Nazis as kind, loving people who did not treat the Jews badly. I believe it is actually illegal in Germany to praise Nazis.
In addition, Germany managed to hold on to most of its manufacturing jobs, in spite of high wages, by focusing on high-quality manufactured products the world wanted. Germany has been an economic success and the de facto leader of the EU. I think it is the only EU country with a trade surplus. Im not familiar with the government policies that have led to Germanys success, but we could learn from them.

(60,320 posts)Except America where many people have difficulty conceiving that they are actually out of step with the world in many ways.
It used to be USA led the world. Now it is holding back the world.
The truly international unambiguous standard is 2020-11-07.
