(11,780 posts)I suppose if I did the whole thing it was designed to zero in on attitudes, but its just like a lot of those things, the way questions are posed its hard to really form any conclusions.

(17,821 posts)16% of the public, largest group in the Democratic coalition, more minority members, economically liberal, concerned about crime.
The questions were too general, in my opinion, and I might have answered differently if they had been more specific. For instance, on the question that asked if criminals are spending too much time in prison or the right amount, I said it was the right amount. If the question had specifically asked about drug offenses, though, I would have said that it was too much prison time. But I think about the amount of time people spend in prison for heinous crimes like rape, child molestation, murder, etc. really isn't enough in a lot of cases.
With more targeted questions, I could have given very different answers and been categorized differently. So this survey only has a very limited chance of deciding where people stand on the issues.

Interesting. It's really long but I want to read the rest.
I AM really proud of the Democratic Party. Founded when Thomas Jefferson and James Madison took a sailing trip up the Hudson River to hunt butterflies.

It should be painful enough for the second generations unable to maintain severely depreciated first-generation estates, have to donate/sell masterpieces to museums, and have to use regular roads and airport terminals. Oh, the humanity!

(40,689 posts)... but my politics are always practical. I'm an enthusiastic supporter of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Some of the questions amused me. I live in a place where I'm as likely to hear other languages (Spanish mostly) as I am English. The kids next door to us are trilingual, effortlessly shifting among languages depending upon which relative or family friend they are speaking to. They speak English in school. That's the way its always been in the U.S.A.. The grandparents may not speak English well, their grandchildren do.
I grew up in a place that was 99% affluent white and kept that way by various underhanded and sometimes illegal means. Fortunately I managed to escape that hell as a young adult and have rarely lived in places that are majority white or Republican since.
The most important issue we face today is global warming. We need to quit fossil fuels sooner, rather than later. There wasn't anything about that on the quiz. I think we could quit fossil fuels in fifteen years or less if we made a major effort, similar to the economic effort we made in the Second World War. Even if the U.S.A. did it alone we'd be developing zero-carbon energy technologies we could export to the rest of the world.
