Republicans are rallying around former White House adviser Stephen K. Bannon after his indictment on charges of contempt of Congress on Friday, warning that Democrats efforts to force Bannon to comply with what they say is an unfair subpoena paves the way for them to do the same if they take back the House in 2022.
Bannon, like former president Donald Trump, has refused to comply with an order from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection to turn over records and testify about his actions leading up to the attack, when a pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol trying to stop the certification of President Bidens electoral college win.
Bannon is expected to turn himself in to law enforcement Monday ahead of a court appearance that afternoon. Democrats and a handful of anti-Trump Republicans argue that the indictment was necessary to enforce subpoenas issued by the Jan. 6 committee to Trump associates who are resisting cooperation and to witnesses summoned by other congressional panels.
Many GOP leaders, however, are seizing on Bannons indictment to contend that Democrats are weaponizing the Justice Department, warning Democrats that they will go after Bidens aides for unspecified reasons if they take back the House majority in next years midterm elections, as most political analysts expect.

Hey GOPers you're going to do that anyway if you get back in power no matter what happens to Bannon. I mean Hillary Clinton whipped your boy Gowdy Doody over Benghazi in a Congressional hearing.
Currently we have the guy with the pubic hair goatee, Durham, trying to throw shit at the wall hoping something will sticks.

(47 posts)When you dont have the truth on your side , which Rs rarely do, make a lot of impotent threats about revenge to try to stop the truth from coming out. Standard practice for the cult that is now what remains of the Republican Party. You can testify all day long if the truth is with you, as Hillary demonstrated. Imagine Bannon trying to lie and obsfuscate for 11 hours? Hed be jelly like and raving mad after about 3 hours trying to keep his lies straight.

(46,140 posts)the Biden DOJ should do with it exactly what the Trump DOJ would've done with one passed by the Democrats --- nothing.

(38,213 posts)Something that they'd even arrange to be "necessary" just for the spectacle to show off in conservative media?
Pfft.
If you think "weaponizing" the DoJ is a bad thing, 1) you've never minded that when a Republican was in charge of it, especially over the last few years, and 2) don't allow people to blow off subpoenas. Make sure Bannon and everyone else who is called gets their flabby asses in front of the committee and answers some questions. Truthfully. I know that's not something you guys are used to, but hey, you're the ones making a big stink about "weaponizing", so walk the walk.
