It would be interesting to monitor in-coming flights at Andrews.

(1,143 posts)Old military buildings and the like. Germany did the same thing with its Syrian refugees...slapped a fresh coat of paint on old military buildings and did a redux of the interior. I evacuated from the Philippines per Mt. Pinatubo, and it was the same for Americans...old military buildings with cots/sheets/pillows set up rather quickly.

The evac from the Philippines in 1991 was the Pacific Fleet from Subic NAS to Cebu, then a flight to Anderson/Guam, then a flight to Hickham/Hawaii, and finally to CA, I think it was Travis. It was amazing to me how quickly that was set up since no one can predict a volcanic eruption...only educated guesses. I was impressed with our military. Very.

His donations should increase after his TV appearance tho!
Maybe step up & be part of the solution, Matt. It's literally what your non-profit is for, isn't it?

(5,214 posts)Most flights for the DC area will arrive at Dulles, where those Afghanis will then be taken to Fort Lee for processing, as well as other locations. Federal employees are now being asked to volunteer to staff arrival and processing centers.

I think the people who want to get out don't care if they're in a crappy camp on the border until State gets around to vetting their paperwork. They need to get OUT.
State should have been working on this for the last six months!

and then refused to allow a transition team and then fomented an insurrection. I am amazed at how much Biden has gotten done despite all that in the short time hes been in office.
That said, I am sure he has been planning.

(17,504 posts)and said the Senate passed an emergency appropriation to fund the withdrawal, presumably at WH's request, 30 days ago. Plans for evacuation have been in the works for awhile.
It was also reported that once Pompeo/Taliban reached their withdrawal agreement, the taliban began working with the rural villages, then the small cities, then the provincial capitals to take over them peacefully. That's why there was no fighting and their army melted away.
