Health experts tackle myths, rumors about COVID-19 vaccines

Have you heard that after you get the COVID-19 vaccine you'll become magnetic?

Do we need to say it? That's not true.

From the beginning of the pandemic public health officials have waged war on two fronts: against this new virus and an ocean of myths, rumors and misinformation.

Medical experts have begged Americans to get their information about COVID-19 from credible sources, not from people who play doctor on Facebook, cable news or conspiracy theory websites.

And yet, in Mobile, Alabama, the county health director recently had to reassure one person who got vaccinated that the vaccine was made by a pharmaceutical company and not a U.S. Army biological laboratory.

1. Do you need ID to get a vaccine?

I know someone, an American citizen. Says their spouse kept/destroyed their documents after a divorce. Says they haven't been able to get the documents replaced. Hasn't been able to get a vaccine or or medical attention because of no ID. No birth cert. no SS card, no marriage license. Parents don't seem to have kept any birth records. My friend says they go around in circles. SS wants a birth cert. Stae wants an SS #.

How does one get those documents replaced? How can you get a vaccine without ID?

I actually know another person who was born at home, and had no birth cert. They had trouble getting ID, too. They are older than I am and much of their life, people didn't need ID like they do now.

It is a puzzle for sure. I don't think lack of ID should stop someone from getting a Covid vaccine, not when it could be life or death!

S.S. card is normally very easy to replace. Even with work from home, if she wanted a new one, she should have been able to get one by now.

no birth cert. no drivers' license, no SS card. Marriage records in disarray, probably divorce records too. If they were a crook, they could make a fake id/life easy (at least they do it in the movies)

It's been a month since I heard about this. I looked around a little, but didn't get back to them. They were away for awhile, just saw them again today.

Many people lose all docs in disasters, and get them replaced. Something else is going on here.

identified us by name. At one location people with tablets took names and checked. ID was shown
at the time the vax was administered. At the other location everyone filled out a form then surrendered
their ID for copying. This was placed with the form and the ID was returned to us later.

It all worked much faster than the time I took to write this or the time you took to read it. I never
thought about people who don't have ID. They should work with their state licensing agency since
they provide drivers' licenses and official ID cards and will work with them to achieve that. In a
perfect world we wouldn't need ID.

I told the person about Brennan Center for Justice, which seems cmmitted to. helping with voter ID issues, and might lend a hand. Also sent them a link to what our state requires.

When I meet people who changed their names when they got married, and have id snags, it seems much harder to prove you are who you are, esp. after 911. I can't remember having any trouble.

I didn't mean to get off the subject. I was hoping that there might be some way by now to just get a shot. And this seemed to be a good place to post a vaccine related quandry. Ty.
