(6,017 posts)It is the role of the political branches, and not the courts, to assess the merits of policy measures designed to combat the spread of disease, even during a global pandemic
Why even have health agencies as part of the federal government? Do they think they should be nothing more than a library of good advice for those who wish to seek it out and follow it?

(7,392 posts)Its not a slam dunk. Some legal scholars say were not gonna pass muster. Others say were on solid ground. So its gray
.but were gonna do something now and while the courts are sorting it out, people will be getting help.
I like that approach. Help now, fight about it later.

(8,887 posts)It probably will be struck down but this has bought some time during a very bad upswing in Covid cases.

(43,307 posts)-- no matter who the "we" is who pressure them -- doesn't Congress have the authority to make them return the unspent funds?

(7,392 posts)anything good from a Dem President. They dint have to do evil all the time. Sometimes preventing good is sometimes enough.

(14,971 posts)I mean seeing as how this will probably be overturned by the courts and everything.

(5,929 posts)It is a major disincentive for landlords to rent the unit. For landlords of single family homes in particular, where there is the added incentive of selling at the current high prices. At this point the moratorium could easily be doing as much harm as good due to the market distortion and disincentive to rent.

(3,019 posts)My husband is still unemployed and Texas has already given away some of hus unemployment benefits. The rest will disappear altogether soon. Fortunately our house is paid for, or we would be in deep trouble.
It was questionable policy before. Now it is huge overkill that harms far more than it helps.

(22,970 posts)allocated monies to all the states to help tenants and home owners as well as to owners of said properties regarding payments concerning overdue rent or house payments. I'm pretty sure Blue States are complying. Red States not so much because in my opinion, they just don't give a damn.
The court overturned the moratorium and the new moratorium in this matter may go to the US SC

(13,096 posts)She is renting out one side of the duplex and lives in the other. She does not have the money to keep paying the rent for her renters. This is not fair.

(3,582 posts)Too many people don't know there is money to pay the landlords. You have to do some research and some paperwork, but it can and should be done. She will be fully compensated. There is a government website (I heard about today) where you can enter your zip and it will tell you what agency to contact to apply for the money. Start today and get her the money she deserves.

(2,904 posts)Too many on here think you should force people to suffer economic harm just to help others avoid economic harm. The government should be providing subsidies, if anything. It should NOT continue this insane moratorium.

(7,510 posts)See footnotes 9 and 10 for definitions of the "substantial" and "high" levels.
Substantial is > 50 per week per 100,000 population or > 8% positive PCR tests.
See map at https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view
There must be a substantial business for private investigators researching whether the renter actually meets all 6 points of the declaration or has committed perjury.

(2,360 posts)Had a boss who made comments about about my breast size. I was nursing my first child.
He was a short man. I was totally embarrassed by his comments.
I finally had enough.
He made a comment in front of my co workers.
I very sweetly said, "why Rob! I know why you comment on my breast size! You're so short that's all you can see of me!!!"
Never mentioned my breast size again.
