Is there anything the National Forest Service or the Bureau of Land Mgmt can do to change the course of the moons or Earths orbit around the sun? Obviously that would have profound effects on our climate.
- Louie Gohmert, Republican Member of Congress

I guess it's progress of a sort that Rep. Gohmert seems to acknowledge at last that we might have the weensiest little problem with anthropogenic climate change.
ShazzieB
(22,600 posts)He seems to be acknowledging climate change, but definitely trying to blame it on non-anthropogenic causes. What a maroon.

My apologies to Gohmerts who happen to be Democrats. It's just unfortunate.

(6,359 posts)He's arguing (falsely, of course) that climate change is due to forces entirely outside our control (such as subtle orbital changes and variations in solar activity). He's arguing for doing nothing.
(edited to add) Yes, he's an idiot, but we should at least make an effort to recognize what is a rhetorical tactic vs. a serious proposal.
ShazzieB
(22,600 posts)He does think climate change is due to forces other than human activity, but I think he was making a serious (to him) suggestion.
It would take Olivier levels of acting ability to say something that monumentally stupid with a straight face if he had any idea how stupid it was.
caraher
(6,359 posts)Another example of Gohmert doing the exact same thing:
Also, no matter how dim he truly is, were he serious he would surely have urged NASA or Space Force to look into changing those orbits rather than the Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management.
