https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/03/politics/capitol-riot-plea-deals/index.htmlsnip:
When the Justice Department was ready to set the tone for hundreds of its US Capitol riot cases, it looked to a working-class Floridian who had gone into the Senate chamber with the crowd for 15 minutes on January 6.
I read the entire article and then came across this at the end.

Following the riot, Hodgkins started going to a Baptist church regularly, his attorney said. Leduc also says Hodgkins is an Eagle Scout and regularly volunteers with charities.
"January 6 may go down as the greatest thing that ever happened to him. On January 6, he didn't know Jesus. He's getting to know him now," Leduc said.
Using Jesus as a human shield. I predict we will hear a lot of this in the coming months.

How surprising. Not.
My personal favorite was the guy who feared he'd lose his disability payments if he was kept in jail.

(7,611 posts)For someone who has never been in trouble before, the prospect of facing real prison time must be truly frightening. He's the first person to accept responsibility for his actions. I think he deserves some credit for that.

(5,484 posts)As a religious matter, though, he seemed pretty certain of his relationship when he gave Jesus thanks for helping him make the "traitors" evacuate the Senate floor.

The confidence lost in the system and the psychological damage done can never be repaired though.

I'm more interested in the trials for those accused of obvious assault on law enforcement.
I think we're going to see a LOT of not-guilty pleas of people looking for jury trials and a change of venue.
