Florida, which was already the country's hardest-hit state for two kinds of coronavirus variants, more than doubled its tally of the variants in a report released Sunday by the Centers for Disease Control. Florida had reported 1,075 variant cases through Thursday. Sunday's report added another 1,255 cases, bringing the state to 2,330.
Michigan, the country's second-highest state for variants, reported another 254 cases since Thursday and 625 cases in the last week, bringing its total to 1,242.

(20,591 posts)under the direction of Gov. DeSatan, reported just two cases of the Corona variant, and it's reported that the cases were no more severe than the average hiccups. Florida is open for business and it's doing fine. Bring grandma and grandpa, aunts and uncles, the kids and even the family pets. Nothing but good times in Florida, no matter what the CDC has to say. Just trust Trump and DeSatan, and spend your COVID relief checks in the sunshine state.

(16,992 posts)maybe you should come on down and count the number of ohio registered vehicles that are blocking our highways. Then do a comparison of florida registered vehicles on the highways of ohio.
Maybe all the tourists should stay home.
I've been here 44 years and have yet to hear anyone sitting around planning a trip to Ohio. BTW, who was Ken Blackwell?

(5,378 posts)We wanted to avoid state taxes on his retirement. Thank God we changed our mind. Insane taxes here in VA but it is a blue state. The politics in Florida would drive me insane. Desantis for governor? Scott for Senator? Stand your ground? Yall have beautiful weather plus Disney in Florida. However, I will settle for Busch Gardens Williamsburg and visit Florida once Covid is under control there.

(16,992 posts)there are a lot of folks who move here to avoid state taxes which in turn causes the politics to swirl the drain into rightwing policies.
The weather sucks anymore, Hotter than hell, 86 degrees here today along the coast. Tornados, hurricanes, heavy thunderstorms, and hundreds of thousand idiots behind the wheel that don't know where they're going, along with alligators and floriduhmans(womans)
Is best to avoid Florida and if you're leaving to go back where everything is "better", take a friend with ya.
Yeah, I'm tired of the overcrowding

(31,261 posts)Not every day yet, but I am seeing the early morning fog again, after months of not seeing it at all. That means hit/humid weather and big thunder storms soon.

(16,992 posts)water temps, It's 78 degrees today off of the Pinellas County peninsula. Usual for today would be 70-72. Kingfish would just have started running . Big thunderstorms on their way with tornados following.
Good luck.

(31,261 posts)weather wise. The pollen drop this year seems off the charts to me, and I am seeing plants that normally thrive this time of year being affected by hotter temps.

If one were to read about what ken blackwell did in ohio they might tie a few things together.
But hey, let's work toward the betterment of our country/nation. We deserve it....

If it were possible to cut off Ohio, I wouldn't be offended, I'd move.
(Which I intend on doing once this pandemic is over)

(31,261 posts)The major influx of people into the state temporarily is from other states. If those people did not come, DeSantis would be forced to change his tune.

To me, "Open for Business" is no different than a shout out to "Liberate Michigan."

(31,261 posts)I am Black, after all the news about higher risk for some Black people from SARS-COV-2, I am absolutely demoralized by the number of Black people that are running around without masks being properly worn.
My robust health statistics and caution toward dealing with the virus appears to have landed me in a very low risk category, but, even with that, there is no way that I come close to another person (even family) without a mask on and them having a mask on properly, and I shake hands with NO ONE.

(4,109 posts)People are fed up and have a false sense of security because either they've been vaccinated or think those vaccinated are going to some how keep the the unvaccinated "safe". Anyone who's been paying attention knows that people are letting their guards down. The bars and restaurants I drive by are packed with people. The virus is spreading just about everywhere. New strains are being propagated or are given a chance to form. Best hope is to keep rolling the vaccine out and hope herd immunity kicks in before a more virulent form develops.
I'd let the anti-vac folks suffer their fate if not for the chance that they will breed a new killer. Morally it's wrong to not make some effort to get them vaccinated but they aren't endearing themselves much of my sympathy.

(17,757 posts)We must be down to the 40% range of people who wear masks. In some of the small towns I have visited, you see almost no one wearing a mask. In many stores, you get a bad case of stink-eye, if you walk in with a mask. We have our leadership to thank.
It is just politically intolerable to admit that the virus is really an issue.

(31,261 posts)Once President Biden wrenches the country totally back onto the right track, people like DeSantis will take credit, Fox News will be tooting horns for people like DeSantis, and many voters will forget how bad things were when President Biden took office. That is why we must all vote and mentally prepare ourselves for a hard struggle.
