If so, so be it. Hell, if any American wants to vote Republican, I would fully protect their rights do so.

I have no problem in theory, but DC is ready now. I don't want them waiting for PR

I remember back in the 80's when I went to PR on business they were voting on a statehood referendum, but I don't think it passed.
I would expect a candidate would have to vote to request statehood, and then it takes congressional/potus approval.
Has DC held a referendum vote?

(55,334 posts)4. DC said "yes" by 86% in 2016. PR said "yes, immediately" by 52.5%-47.5% in 2020
I think there's an issue cause Puerto Ricans don't have to pay income tax, but would understatehood. But they've always voted narrowly in favor.
