He worked on Democratic campaigns. I thought I remembered him but checked to make sure. Not a Republican.

6. He's done some interviews on Colbert where he's very critical of the Republican party.

7. He's a very "support the troops" guy, but in a "POTUS/Pentagon are doing them dirty" way.

So he was critical of Obama about Iraq and Afghanistan, but he had been even that much more critical of Bush for the same.

He tries to adopt a "take no BS from the politician I'm interviewing" stance, but still engages in both siderism.

He seems to really loathe Trump for his blatant dishonesty/deceit.
