This is just my opinion and it is only worth what it's costing you, but---

I think the streets and parks of Washington, D.C. will be very risky places to be come this Wednesday, January 6th.

Proud Boys, 3-Percenters, white supremacists and assorted other right-wing thugs will be invading DC to take part in the "wild" protests and rallies called for by Trump. I have drafted and scrapped several longer and more "emotional" posts about this, but this will be simply and coldly stated.

Law enforcement officers should be instructed to take any action necessary to protect lives and property. Specifically, any actual or threatened violence---,including brandishing a weapon of any kind---should be immediately dealt with using overwhelming force. As to any thug who points a gun at a person in a threatening manner or actually fires a gun at another, there should be no hesitancy about responding in kind.

Whatever it takes.

That won't happen because it would work to lock some of these scumbags up.

At least, given what does happen on our streets too often, Atticus, that's how I'm interpreting "any action necessary to protect lives and property." Fear and anger interfere with good judgement.

Fortunately, the DC authorities have long experience with these types. They know they're not there to even inadvertently serve the violent goals of domestic terrorists.

think me someone who would ever encourage the "execution" of people on the street.

I believe that police officers should shoot back at anyone who shoots at them or others and, further, if a snarling Proud Boy points a gun at someone, the officer should not have to wait for him to pull the trigger. That is not "execution". That is protecting the public and themselves.

At least, that's my opinion.

some others would be board with it as long as they enjoyed imagining it was those they fear being shot down.

Every day, right here on DU, some people cheer and call for the deaths of those on the "other" side. And I believe those with intact moral cores shouldn't even accidentally encourage their partisan depravity.

That’s probably the reason 4 people got stabbed last time these idiots were in town.

They tried to have a pro gun rally but because of my above title,
they had to have it on the Virginia side of the Potomac. (About a dozen showed up)
