before eliminating the Senate filibusterFormer Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada said that if Joe Biden captures the White House and Democrats win control of the Senate, then the former vice president should spend "no more than three weeks" testing the waters for bipartisanship before eliminating the filibuster, according to the Associated Press.
Reid, a 30-year veteran of the Senate and for Majority Leader, said that Democrats will have big pieces of legislation that will encounter hurdles in reaching the 60 votes necessary to push through legislation.
"We should give the Republicans a little bit of time, to see if they're going to work with him," Reid said. "But the time's going to come when he's going to have to move in and get rid of the filibuster."

Schumer can offer republican amendments and cooperation to make it more bipartisan
And if they stonewall then we eliminate the filibuster and make them irrelevant and pass whatever we want

The true Republicans (all two of them), who will take responsibility and try to work with Biden

(53,193 posts)The GOP are already planning out how to destroy the Biden presidency. They will put their plans into action as soon as he crosses the 270-EV line. We have to be prepared to kill the filibuster on January 6 - the first day of the new Congress. The filibuster was intended to stop BAD legislation from going forward, not to allow the GOP to control the Senate whether they're in the majority or not.

(9,048 posts)..The Republican Party cant win using ordinary methods. On the process side, they can win only by inflating the white vote via gerrymandering, cracked-and-packed districts, and ruthless black voter suppression. On the policy side, they can win only with heavy dollops of strident and outright bigotry against Mexicans, Muslims, blacks, Hispanics, Chinese, and anyone else who comes along. Even Canadians will do in a pinch.
Today, the Republican Party exists for one and only one purpose: to pass tax cuts for the rich and regulatory rollbacks for corporations. They accomplish this using one and only method: unapologetically racist and bigoted appeals to win the votes of the heartland riff-raff they otherwise treat as mere money machines for their endless mail-order cons.
Like it or not, this is the modern Republican Party. It no longer serves any legitimate purpose. It needs to be crushed and the earth salted behind it, while a new conservative party rises to take its place

People are tired of having their vote suppressed and they're acting like it. This election is about a lot more than passing budget-resolutions or confirming future judicial nominations. This election is about ending the one percent's stranglehold on the country and the financialization of our economy that began in the 1960s. Fifty trillion sits in off-shore tax havens and our infrastructure collapses around us. The British economy was custom-tailored to promote money-laundering after the retreat West of Suez. Nixon's State Department had Wall Street open up it's arms to the world's criminals through Caribbean banks to prop up the dollar at the end of the sixties. Mossack-Fonseca was just a glimpse of what we are up against and the logical extension of decades of deregulation. Eighty percent of Sub-Saharan Africa's GNP is stolen by it's rulers and hidden. This election HAS to be about leveling the playing field, or it's about nothing at all.
