General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsPlease don't just say you are going to vote. Don't say you "will" vote. VOTE NOW!---or Monday if
that's the first opportunity in your state.
ESPECIALLY if you are "planning to" vote by mail, GET IT DONE!
If you are planning to vote on November 3rd, be sure you know for sure where to do so and verify that you are still registered to vote. Make sure you have transportation for that day plus a good mask and gloves. Take your own black ballpoint or pencil so you won't have to use the one in the booth that unknown others have used.
Do not put this off. Many others will and you will risk losing your vote if you don't plan to cast it effectively.
VOTE NOW!

What state is this?

(31,261 posts)I was planning that, but when I got a mail in ballot that I didnt expect to receive and saw that it took 3 days to reach me, I decided to vote by mail instead of wait 22 days for in person early voting to start. My ballot was counted four days after I mailed it back.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(28,493 posts)but they have sent out those requests to all registered voters. I will also add that our mail here seems to be almost completely unaffected by the crap that's been going on with the USPS. It helps a lot that this is a small, only 5 EC votes, unimportant state that most people don't even know is one of the fifty. So things like the mail slow down just go by us.
The early voting location I mostly use is at the country fair grounds, and there is never much of a line. One thing I love about when I vote here is that if someone is a first time voter, the poll workers announce that and then we all applaud and cheer.

(5,960 posts)Got confirmation on the 30th that it had been received.
So no mail delays here.

(31,261 posts)When I found my ballot in my mailbox, I made a decision to vote by mail instead of waiting 22 more days for early voting. I had already done research of Judge appointments and had the summaries on how to vote on my desk. It took me 3 minutes to complete my ballot properly and another few seconds to properly seal it and sign it. I dropped the completed ballot off at the Post Offices internal boxes the next morning.

(5,960 posts)I took mine to the service counter and the lady who took it made quite the show of stamping the ballot envelope and then she thanked me for voting early!
It felt good and no one was there so I felt safe handing it to her. I think she knew I was blue...

(31,261 posts)The ONLY reason why a person should have not voted is there is no early voting for them. Any other reason they give is hot air and procrastination.

(2,227 posts)We voted in the primary by mail. I emailed the democratic office (phone call went to voice mail) and was told on August 4th by email response that we were on the list to receive ballots every election.
I emailed last month asking when we would be getting the ballots, and about the drop off location closest to our home address. The response...
"The ballots will go out the beginning of October. We are waiting for the State to certify the candidates on the ballot.
As of right now the only drop off is our office in Stroudsburg."
We still hadn't received our ballots, so last Thursday night (October 8th) I emailed again. Friday ( the 9th) I got this response....
"Your ballot is almost ready, and it's being prepared for mailing. If you do not receive your ballot in the next 10-14 days, please contact your county election office."
So let's do the math.
If I was emailed on the Friday the 9th that it was almost ready to be mailed, they still haven't mailed it. So maybe next week (meaning MID October at the earliest)? If it takes 14 days for me to receive it (from the 9th, when it hasn't been mailed yet), that means the mail is being slowed down, and to get it, fill it out, and get it back into the mail may not happen before the 23rd. At that point I will not trust the mail to get it to them in time to be counted.
So we will have to go drop it off.
Which is no problem, but there ARE people who may not be able to, so the whole vote-by-mail has been circumvented by the turd's bullshit, resulting in the (republican controlled) state delaying certification of the ballots (on purpose?), the ballots being mailed late, the USPS having delayed delivery of ballots to a point where hoping for the USPS to deliver the returned ballots is iffy, at best.
So yes, color me paranoid, because I KNOW they are out to fuck up this election to the point of it being decided by the Supreme Court. They KNOW they can't win except by cheating and manipulation. And we know how THAT SC decision is going to go...
Add to that the possibility that if we go in person to vote, they will show that we have been sent a ballot, and even if we turn in our mail-in ballot, they may insist we fill out a PROVISIONAL ballot, which (let's be real, here) will more than likely NEVER BE COUNTED.
JEEZUS FUCKING CHRIST these people make me so mad!!!
We WILL drop our ballot off.

(5,960 posts)I am sure we know they are...I'm in a red state and there are no mail slow downs AT ALL.
Maybe a glitch every now and then, but that was normal anyways.

(23,175 posts)In Ohio, you can track your ballot. Mine was mailed Monday, but hasn't come. If it isn't here Monday, I'll call the B.O.E. and see what my options are. My neighbor up the street got hers, and a friend on the next street got hers. Same precinct as me.

(23,175 posts)When I checked online tracking Monday, it showed the status as mailed. I am going to fill it in and drop it off at the B.O.E. in person.

(1,876 posts)I was skeptical about the mail-in ballot process and was planning to bring my ballot with me and vote in person when early voting began in Broward County FL. However, I couldn't wait so I decided to hand deliver my mail-in ballot to the SOE office. It was counted the next day.

(34,189 posts)I don't go first day but I will go the first week. Late morning or mid afternoon in mid week are the slowest times at the early voting locations I use so it will be Wednesday for my husband and me since the last step in the construction is supposed to begin Thursday. Yeah, GUTTERS!

(47,423 posts)Later that day news started to get out that Franklin county, OH, send wrong ballots to some of the voters (yesterday we found out it was 50,000 wrong ballots). So I was waiting to see if my ballot was one of the wrong ones. Turned out it's fine, so now it should be good to go.

(11,005 posts)This first one is a video that explains the propositions on the ballot in California. This video was made by the Los Angeles Times.
The second link is to the California Democratic committee site, and their recommendations.

In the second one, you can put in your zip code and it will also give you recommendations specific to where you live. And if anyone else reads this, this information is for California only.
Don't you just love ballot propositions?

This year wasn't that bad. I hate the years when the ballot shows up and it looks like a phone book.

(9,212 posts)I am not sure if I should mail it or drop it off at the polls Nov 3. I was planning to vote in person, but I got a ballot for me as well just in case I get sick or something. I am going to drop off one for my father although he is saying he is going to vote ip as well, but he can barely walk and needs a walker etc. I dont want him going there anyway. He and my brother want to mail in and vote in person. In our county they will not count the mail in if you vote in person as well. I am just wondering which is more vulnerable to cheating, mail in or electronic.

(23,175 posts)Just dropped my ballot off at the drop box in front of the B.O.E. I did not vote for a single r. Not even if they were running unopposed. And there were a lot.
I hope Ohio state Dems will start vetting candidates to run in local and state level elections. I have free time now. I would run. Just to give voters an option.
