I'm getting pretty damn tired of hearing the protestations and lamentations over the reaction to police violence against black men and women. If it were white people being treated this way we'd burn the whole mother fucking thing down. Don't believe me? How about a little history lesson:
December 1773 a bunch of white people broke into a ship in the Boston harbor and destroyed the cargo, looted it if you will, and we celebrate it today as the Boston Tea Party. Why?
Because three years earlier a group of white guys were tired of the authorities mistreating them and rioted against them by throwing snowballs at policeman (sentry) and were rewarded with a platoon of soldiers opening fire with live ammunition, killing 5 and wounding 6.
Oh! you say, that's different from burning buildings, hurting people and defying all authority! It's not the same!
Bull shit.
This bunch of white guys didn't just burn a store or two. They didn't just tear up some merchandise. They didn't just make a mess and block traffic. Oh no! they fucking started an international war. A war that killed 6,800 of themselves, resulted in the additional deaths of 17,000 more and 24,000 of the opposition. This bunch of white people burned down a whole damn country. And we celebrate it.
So don't tell me that a few fires and a business or two is too high a price to pay protesting the systemic violence that the authorities are perpetrating against a single class of American Citizens.
I submit to you that we white people are Goddamn lucky that our black brothers and sisters are civilized enough, forgiving enough and self controlled enough to refrain from reacting the way the white people of that British Colony did.

(27,639 posts)...trying to convey that to "comfortable" white people benefiting (intentionally or otherwise) from societal racism is going to be about as effective as trying to justify the Boston Tea Party to Loyalists of the time.

While dumping that tea in the harbor they were yelling No taxation without Representation. Meaning no one should have to pay taxes if they cant vote. OMG they were destroying private property.
Thanks for the post.
