Junteenth to replace Columbus day?

Amazingly, 2 publican Senators have introduced an amendment to replace Columbus Day with Juneteenth!

1. My company gave us Juneteenth off this year.

We have a large BLM collaboration community also. Constant equality messaging from the top down.

Publicly traded tech company.


On Edit: Juneteenth will be a paid company holiday moving forward also.

5. Hurray! That is wonderful.

I spent 30 years with a global 50 tech company. Sexual harassment was dealt with swiftly and severely, LGBTQ proactively supported since way back and racism or misogyny in any form also dealt with severely. Over the years the company shifted to be all about stockholder value, but did always maintain these equality and respect for all programs.

4. I'd be on board for consolidating Veterans and Memorial Days, and adding Juneteenth

if the premise is that the number of official holidays must be treated as zero sum.

I'd also swap the official federal recognition from Columbus to Indigenous Peoples.

6. I'd change the name of Columbus day to Encounter Day

We need more federal holidays anyway - there's nothing between President's day and memorial day.
