Thst's what the Nazis did. It was NOT the loss of guns, but the loss of freedom of speech/press that was the key to their dictatorship.

Laws were declared that made criticism of Hitler and the Nazis illegal. People would sometimes turn in their neighbors for those "violations", with the rule-breakers taken away by the SS, and the effect was to silence nearly everyone.

It would be Trump's dream to have a similar law in this country, of course.
