Grocery stores are one of the few gathering places left
Therefore they are the most potential hotspots for spreading covid
Go when you absolutely need to
Make a detailed list so you can get in and get out
Buy big if you can
Wear a mask
Practice social distancing
When you see customers bunching up stay back until it clears
Shop alone or in the smallest group possible - shopping for others to limit traffic is good
If you have to take kids make sure they stay near you
If you feel your store does not have enough precautions - call around and find a more responsible store
Leave your reusable bags at home
Clean up well when you get home

(12,286 posts)Smaller stores may not offer this.
But I shop at SuperTarget and last month switched to buying online and then driving up and they load stuff in my car.
I never get out and I never come close to a human.

(27,834 posts)I was so pleasantly impressed with both the precautions taken by the store (Aldi) and the precautions taken by the shoppers. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE was wearing a mask. Many were wearing gloves. Everyone kept the distance and we all smiled at each other, with their eyes.
I bought enough for, hopefully, another month. And I took a long, hot, soapy shower and changed into fresh clothes.
Unfortunate, despite having a list (which I NEVER do), I forgot to buy cabbage. I might just sweet talk my niece into picking some up, for me, and dropping it off at my doorstep. I have a small corned beef in the freezer and I'm suddenly craving corned beef and cabbage.

(6,843 posts)Spray bottom of shoes before I get in car. Sprayed sone on paper towel and wiped down face before taking off my mask.

(6,477 posts)Ask for no bags. Then, I bag my groceries at the trunk of my car after leaving the store.
That way, my reusables don't go in the store, and I also don't bring plastic or paper out.
Obviously only makes sense if you're driving to the store.
EDIT: Also, my store allows us to bring carts to the car.

(17,802 posts)I haven't even seen them wipe down the handles. They just do the standard old push iron and leave carts in a line. Any cleaning is up to the customer.

(17,802 posts)Just pile stuff from the cart to car, then from car to kitchen. Doesn't take long.

(10,180 posts)I'm fortunate that where I live everyone completely adheres to the rules.
I also wipe my groceries with Lysol Spray before I put them up, take off my clothes and put them in a paper bag that I close off, and take a complete shower. I'm able to do my major shopping (fortunately it's just me) every two weeks and go to a local market if I need something in a hurry.
