Is surfing a widespread activity in Black culture—and every non-white culture?

Isn't a surfer just Californian and Hawaiian in some sense? How does it include the East Coast, South and entire middle of the country?

Not sure how inclusive and timely this really is.

But skateboard and sneakers might be a little more inclusive—at least for young people.

I'm not feeling this mascot.

First of all, the world's top ranked surfer, 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater, is from my little home town of Cocoa Beach, Florida. That's about as East Coast as it gets. New Jersey and North Carolina are also top East Coast surf spots. Even Rhode Island. They've produced many touring pros and even some hall-of-famers. So there's that.

It is impossible to get everything you wish for into this one figure. A transgendered old/young mixed-race skateboarder riding a wave in sneakers? Sorry, not going to work. This is about "riding the blue wave." Period. It's not meant to be all things to all people. However, I certainly do appreciate your input. Sorry you're not feelin' it.
