Richard Mack, Republican candidate for Congress, says teenage survivors of the Stoneman Douglas High shooting sound like Hitler in their calls for gun control.

Mack is a former sheriff
running in the Republican primary in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. .....................................

In an interview with the Southern Poverty Law Center, Mack was asked about the grassroots movement started by students after the mass shooting. He was not receptive.

“The talk that I’ve heard so far coming from either some of the students or from politicians or from the media is that gun control would make us safer,” Mack said.

“If you compare that to some of the rhetoric from Hitler and Stalin and Lenin, you’ll see the exact same kind of language used — that gun control will make you safer.”.....................

Mack also accused politicians and the media reporting on the attack of sounding like the man who engineered the Holocaust that exterminated 6 million innocent Jewish people.

At the top of his official website, Mack has a photo and endorsement from NRA board member Ted Nugent. There is also a video of Nugent with Mack, calling Mack a “constitutional warrior.”....

Republicanism has become a malignant mental condition that may lead to terminal trumpism. Not sure there is a remedy

Mack, who is currently running for Congress in the 8th Congressional District of Arizona, took the lead role in a 1997 case that challenged the constitutionality of provisions in the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act.

In Mack v. United States (also known as Printz v. United States), Mack and a group of county sheriffs challenged the constitutionality of a provision in the Brady Act “that required county sheriffs to carry out at the behest of Congress background checks on gun purchasers”.

Arguing that such provisions violate the 10th Amendment, Mack and his associates were forced, after an adverse ruling by the notoriously leftist Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, to appeal to the Supreme Court, The New American reported.

In June of 1997, the Supreme Court, led by Justice Antonin Scalia, overturned the Ninth Circuit Court’s ruling, and found that the commandeering of local law enforcement by Congress did indeed constitute a violation of the 10th Amendment.”

I haven't seen his name mentioned in any coverage. But one of his Republican opponents just had a sex scandal blow up and the primary is next Tuesday.
I really don't know how much of a chance the Dems have to pick up the seat - it's Sheriff Joe country, so the Republican primary winner is likely the Representative.

Although I can see this whackjob (or Steve "sexting" Montenegro) giving us a chance to pick it up.

Here's what he thinks about women and children:

Mack was a lead figure in the 2014 Bundy standoff. Part of Mack's involvement was strategizing the standoff; Mack publicly commented that he had made plans to use women and children as human shields as part of the group's tactics.
